JCO Children’s Home

The James Christopher Opot (JCO) Children’s Home is an orphanage founded by Juanita Opot and Sarah Fennel Buchanan in Siaya County Kenya.  The JCO is Restore Humanity’s principal program and is animated by a deep concern for the difference between mere survival and the heights of human flourishing. RH Scholars

This scholarship program is a natural extension of our JCO Children’s Home. Our children who have the desire to attend a university and have demonstrated high academic achievement join our RH Scholars Program and we send them to university. We have RH Scholars in both the US and Kenya. Read more

Our Programs

• Our principal program is a Charitable Children’s Institution in Sirembe, Kenya called the James Christopher Opot (JCO) Children’s Home. Currently the JCO is home for up to 20 orphans who remain in our care until the completion of their high school education. We purposefully maintain an optimal ratio of caregivers-to-children so as to provide exceptional holistic care in a familial environment. This allows our children to develop into healthy, productive, and empathetic leaders.

• When JCO kids graduate from high school they’ll join either our JCO Graduate Program or our RH Scholars Program.

• Through its Community Outreach Program Restore Humanity seeks out opportunities to collaborate with local leadership in Sirembe. These opportunities have sometimes taken the form of infrastructure projects (e.g. building classrooms and a computer a lab for the high school, student dormitories, and a maternity ward for the local clinic). However, we also provide secondary school scholarships to many children outside the JCO as well as maxi-pads year round for 700+ girls in Sirembe.

JCO Children's Home

The JCO was founded on an appreciation for the profound difference between mere survival and the heights of human flourishing.  Consequently, it operates with a strategic emphasis on providing exceptional holistic care in a familial environment. We currently have 21 boys and girls, ages ranging from 5-17, living in our home.

RH Scholars Program

The JCO Children’s Home remains our principal program and once our children there complete their secondary school education they leave the JCO and enter adulthood seeking to find their way in the world.  Some of them will then join our JCO Graduate Program, in which we help them to pursue a marketable skill through a vocational program or technical school.  Others of our children who demonstrate high academic achievement and would benefit from more advanced intellectual training will enter our Restore Humanity (RH) Scholars Program, in which we pay for them to attend a four year university.  

Community Outreach Program

Our Community Outreach in Sirembe involves a variety of separate projects. We fund secondary school partial and full scholarships every year for students in need. We provide reusable Maxi-Pads for all of the girls attending Sirembe Secondary School. We have a Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center wherein 30+ students get pre-primary education. We have helped the local primary and secondary schools with infrastructure building and we helped the local clinic build a maternity ward.
